The Department of Digital Economy was established in accordance with the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PQ–4391 dated July 11, 2019, “On measures to introduce new principles of management into the system of higher and secondary specialized education”, and the Presidential Decree No. PF–5850 “On measures to radically improve the status of education system employees.”

In order to ensure the implementation of the decisions of the Institute Council meeting held on November 29, 2019 (Minutes No. 10), to further optimize the structure of the institute’s departments, and to enhance the development, teaching, and understanding of the digital economy, the Department of Digital Economy was established by the Order of the Rector of the Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service dated August 28, 2021, No. 924/F.

The Department of Digital Economy operates as an interfaculty department, focusing on the study and development of methods and approaches for teaching and advancing the digital economy.

At present, the department consists of 15 staff members, including 14 academic personnel and 1 office manager. Among them are 3 professors, 4 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) in Economics, 2 senior lecturers, and 5 assistant lecturers.

Since its establishment, the department’s academic staff have published more than 30 scientific articles in prestigious international journals, including 10 papers indexed in internationally recognized databases such as Scopus. Additionally, 3 textbooks, 20 teaching manuals, 9 monographs, and 11 educational-methodological guidelines have been published.

Faculty members of the department have actively participated in more than 65 spiritual and educational events organized at the institute level. Since its founding, three students of the department have been awarded named (prestigious) scholarships.

In order to implement the Action Strategy of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2017-2021, by order PQ-4391 on “Measures to introduce new management principles into the system of higher and secondary specialized education” in accordance with the decision of Resolution PF-6268 “On measures on the development and fundamental improvement of the digital economy”, to ensure the implementation of the decisions of the protocol of the 10th meeting of the Council of the Institute dated August 20, 2021, as well as in order to further optimize the departments, as well as develop the digital economy at the institute and increase its level of knowledge, it was created August 28, 2021 on the basis of the order of the rector of the Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service No. 945 on the creation of the Department of Digital Economy. Mirzaev Kulmamat Ionuzokevich, professor of economic sciences, has been working as the head of the department since the 2021 academic year.

Currently, there are 13 staff positions, 1 professor-teacher and 1 head of the cabinet work. Of these, 4 doctors of philosophy in economics, 2 professors of science, associate professors, 1 senior lecturer, 4 lecturers (assistant). Since the establishment of the department, professors and teachers of the department have published articles in more than 60 prestigious foreign journals and 12 internationally recognized Scopus databases. 15 textbooks, 4 monographs, 2 educational and methodological instructions have been published. The number of spiritual and educational events held by professors-teachers of the department at the institute level is more than 70.
