Before independence, in June 1990, the Department of "Economic Theory" was established for the first time in Uzbekistan at the Samarkand Cooperative Institute. Rector A.S. Soliyev is the founder and first head of the "Economic Theory" department.

Today, the Department of "Economic Theory" is a specialty department within the "Economics" faculty of the institute.

The history of the department is closely related to the history of the institute. The department was founded in 1931 under the name of "Political Economy" department. The first head of the department was associate professor Kh. D. Minubaev, and later it was headed by the famous writer Musa Toshmukhammedov (Oybek). At that time, the department was one of the leading departments of the institute, where 9 associate professors worked.

In 1936, the name of the department was changed to "Social and economic sciences" department. Prof. to the department. 2 professors, 5 associate professors and 1 teacher worked in it under the direction of I.I. Shtern. In 1938-1940, the head of the department was V.Mishen, then associate professor A.F. Kalujin (1940-1941), associate professor M.S.Torayev (1942-1945), associate professor A.T. Svetlichniy (1945-1960), associate professor N.F.Abdullaev ( 1960-1978), associate professor O. E. Kadirgulov (1978-1993) performed. At that time, prof. Z. Mendelson, associate professors A.N. Since 1992, the department has been called the "Economic Theory" department, and it is headed by prof. It was led by O.R. Rashidov (1993-1998), associate professor R. Karshiev (2001-2008).

In 2004, the department was merged with the department of "Philosophy and History of Uzbekistan" and changed to the department of "Social Sciences - Humanities". The head of the department is prof. S.K. Karimov was appointed. Based on structural changes in the field of education in the republic, and the need to form new educational directions, on March 26, 2004, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted Resolution No. and accordingly, the department was reorganized under the name of the "Vocational Education" department based on the decision No. 2 of the scientific council of the institute dated October 28, 2005 and the order of the rector of the institute No. 147 "F" dated December 7, 2005. On February 21, 2006, the official opening presentation of the department was held and associate professor R. Karshiev was appointed as the head of the department. As a result of the change of the name of the department and the introduction of new disciplines, a new composition of professors and teachers of the department was formed. Currently, the department has a doctor of economics, professor M.M. Mukhammedov, associate professors R.K. Karshiev, J. O. Oripov, A. B. Shakarov, L. N. Khalikova, N. Kh. Khusanov, N. A. Kamilova, senior teachers N. Temirova, D. J. Norboeva, A. Q. Tokhtamyshev. The head of the cabinet Y.M. Khalikov, laboratory assistants N. N. Djalilova, Sh. A. Koldoshev have made a great contribution to the effective conduct of educational, educational-methodical, organizational-methodical, and spiritual-educational work in the department.

Currently, the department is training qualified specialists in "Economic theory" undergraduate education. The professors-teachers of the department are forming knowledge, skills and abilities in the secrets of 4 subjects. Such subjects as "Economic theory", "Microeconomics", "Macroeconomics" and "Economic security" are taught in all educational areas of the institute.
