Department of tourism

The department trains highly qualified personnel in 2 areas of undergraduate studies (Tourism (according to areas of activity), organization and management of the hotel industry), 1 joint direction of education with Tambov State University named after G.R. Derzhavin and 2 directions of the master's program (Tourism (according to areas of activity), Organization and management of the hotel industry).

Currently, there are 11.75 staff units, 16 professors and 1 head of the cabinet work in the department. Of these, 1 doctor of economic sciences, professor, academician of the Academy of Sciences "Turon"; 3 candidates of economic sciences, associate professors; 1 PhD, associate professor; 4 PhD, including 4 senior teachers and 3 teachers (assistant).

During the existence of the department, the faculty of the department prepared and published more than 10 textbooks (according to the standard of the Ministry), about 100 manuals (according to the model of the Ministry), more than 100 manuals and guidelines. Also during this period, the staff of the department published about 1000 articles in foreign and domestic scientific journals. Among them, more than 10 are in Scopus journals.

Based on the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated March 26, 2004 No. 144 “On the establishment of the Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service” and the order of the rector of the Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service No. and tourism service. According to the order of the rector of the institute No. 691-F dated October 2, 2019, the name of the department was changed to the department "Tourism".

In 2006, Professor Tukhliev Iskandar Suyunovich, the organizer of the Department of International Tourism and Tourist Service, was appointed head of the department, and in 2008 he was elected head of the department by competition. Professor I.S. Tukhliev organized the preparation of educational, working curricula and educational and methodological complexes in all 29 specialized disciplines of the newly created department. During this period, state educational standards and curricula were developed and introduced into the educational process in 5 areas of education and 5 specialties of the magistracy.

A new generation of modern educational literature has been created in all subjects by preparing State educational standards and curricula of the newly opened department in the educational areas "Tourism Marketing", "Tourism Management", "Organization of operator services in the field of tourism", "Service (tourism and hotel industry)”, “Tourism (by type of activity)” and “Organization and management of the hotel industry”.

When teaching these subjects, special attention was paid to the issue of advanced training and retraining of the faculty of the department. To date, all of them are undergoing retraining and advanced training in the field of tourism education. In particular, in 2008 the associate professor of the department H.M. Mamatkulov, assistants of the department D.Z. Norkulova, Z.I. Ibadullaev N.E. left for the Arab Republic of Egypt to improve their skills in the direction of "Management in tourism and hotel management".

Also, for several years, under the leadership of Tukhliev Iskandar Suyunovich, the founder of the department, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Academician of the Turon Academy of Sciences, 2 fundamental and 3 practical state grants were carried out.

Since the establishment of the department, training has been carried out in the following areas of education: "Organization and management of the hotel industry", "Organization of tour operator services", "Service (tourism and hotel industry)", "Tourism management", "Tourism marketing", "Tourism and hospitality services", "Tourism (by type of activity)", "Tourism (by type of activity) "and in the following master's specialties: "International tourism operator services" , "Organization of service and tourist services", "Organization of tour operator services", "Tourism (by type of activity)" and "Organization and management of the hotel industry".

The Department of International Tourism and Tourist Service works in cooperation with several foreign higher educational institutions. Among them are Moscow State University of Service, Moscow Academy of Tourism and Hotel and Restaurant Business under the Government of Moscow, Tambov State University named after G. R. Derzhavin, Helwan University of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Taylor University of Malaysia, Khoja Ahmad Yassawi International University. (Kazakhstan), Kazakhstan Economic University and Kazakhstan State Universities and the Singapore Institute for Management Development in Tashkent, and were directly involved in scientific work and scientific and practical conferences together with the above universities.

Every year, professors and teachers of the department take part in the traditional international tourism fair "Tourism on the Great Silk Road" in Tashkent and have a number of achievements. At the 15th International Tourism Fair in 2009, Zohidov Feruz, a student at the Department of Organization of Tourist Operator Services, received the certificate "The Best Student in Tourism of the Year". Faculty "Service and Tourism" this year was awarded the title of "Best Faculty of the Year". In 2010, at the 16th International Tourism Fair, the Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service was awarded the nomination "The Best Educational Institution in the Field of Tourism" for tourism education. November 2-4, 2011 at the XVIII International Tourism Fair, held in Tashkent, Professor of the Department Tukhliev I.S. was awarded the title of "Best coach-teacher in the field of tourism" and was awarded a diploma.

In 2010, on the basis of an agreement between the National Company "Uzbektourism" and the Ministry of Tourism of Greece, 3 talented students of the department Feruz Zohidov, Sadokat Bultakova and Aziza Gafarova improved their knowledge in the field of tourism on the island of Rhodes, Greece and this country for 3 months received a certificate.

In 2022, under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department D.Z. Norkulova Kylychova, Orzigul received a scholarship named after "Navoi".
