Kafedramiz 1931 yilda tashkil etilgan bo‘lib, bunga quyidagi o‘qituvchilar rahbarlik qilib keldilar: Dotsent Brimov S.V, Lebedev N.D., Burchinskiy K.V. Kapustyanskiy K.I. Vereychik P.A. CHirchikov S.P. Ishonkulov A.I. Sorokina L.K, Kapul N.L. Kim V.I. (1961-1971), dots. Kurbanova Z.S. (1971-1991), Kim V.S. (1991-2002), Axtamov J.B. (2002-2013), Jumanov X.G.(2013-2025) J.Axtamov, hozirgi kunda Z.A.Abdilaxatov jismoniy madaniyat kafedrasi mudirligi lavozimida faoliyat yuritib kelmoqda. Shuni alohida ta’kidlash lozimki, kafedramiz tashkil topganiga 94-yil to‘lganligi bu quvonchli holdir. Kafedramiz tashabbusi bilan respublikamizda sportning barcha turlari bo‘yicha tan olingan, katta xizmatlari bor o‘qituvchi-murabbiylar taklif etilib, ularning ish tajribalari, zaruriy saboqlari ham ommalashtirilib borilmoqda. Hozirgi kunda kafedramizda faoliyat yuritayotgan professor-o‘qituvchilar quyidagilar jismoniy madaniyat kafedra mudiri Z.A.Abdilaxatov, dotsent v.b Sh.A.Dusanov, katta o‘qituvchi J.A.Samatov, D.T.Tangirov, R.O.Obloberdiyevalar o‘quvchilarga sifatli ta’lim berib kelmoqda.

Ushbu sport turlaridan insitutimiz talabalar jamoasi shakillantirilib talabalar ligasi, besh tashabbus, universiada va boshqa nufuzli musobaqalardan faxirli o‘rinlarni qo‘lga kiritib kelmoqdalar.

The Institute has achieved great success in physical culture and sports. In the period from 1961 to 1980, dozens of champions were trained at this faculty. Among them, former USSR champion in athletics V.Tabachev, world champion in fencing P.Lukacher, champions of Uzbekistan Yu.Prokhorov, O.Azizmurodov, O.Asedov, Y.Ataev, P. In the 1980s and 1990s, he repeatedly achieved high results in physical culture and sports events and competitions held among higher educational institutions of our city.

Since 2000, in the sports competition “Universiade“ of the three-stage system of sports competitions organized in the republic, students-athletes of the Institute demonstrate high results. In the sports competitions “Universiade-2002“, held in Bukhara, the volleyball (women's) team of the Institute showed outstanding results. In addition, our student-athletes who have qualified in basketball, hand-to-hand combat, wrestling and other sports, perform in the teams of the main staff of our region and participate in prestigious competitions, defending the honor of our institute, region and Republic. In 2004, at the sports tournament “Universiade-2004" in Samarkand, the volleyball team of our institute (girls) Mukhammedova K.R. under his leadership, they won the highest result and became the winners of the Universiade. 

Until 2002 , the following professors and teachers worked at the department:Bakhtamov (Head of the department), L.X. Chairman of Kimsportklub, K.Rmukhammedov, H.G. Zhumanov,. 

During the 2013 academic year, the staff of teachers is increasing at the department, and the following teachers are also working: X.G.Zhumanov (head of the department), J.B. Akhtamov, K.R. Mukhammedov, D.B. Mamaziyatov, M.A. Khotamov, H. Ortikov, Kim L.X.

In 2017, the department was headed by J.B.Akhtamov. Due to the reduction of the teaching hours of the Department, the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of the Faculty of Service was included in the Department of Physical Culture. At the initiative of our department in the republic there are great merits in attracting students to participate in sports competitions in all sports.
